WELCOME TO THE LIBRARY

Books are just drawers you can carry.

This is where you'll find mine; the ones I've written, and the ones I couldn't not write.

Memoir, mostly, though I use the word loosely: love, loss, rebellion, and the long search for whatever it is we're all actually looking for.

If a story here catches you by the sleeve, you can take it home.

MODERN MILITARY MOTHER

I HATE HOUSEWORK

I HATE HOUSEWORK is for women who hate housework and being told what to do. If you feel that you are a slave to your family then read this book. Sometimes funny, sometimes sad and sometimes crazy, this is a quick and easy read. Meet 'Hagar', the Chinook-flying husband frequently on secret missions in 'The Stan', and the children, a son, 'The Grenade', and, a daughter, 'The Menace'. Listen to accounts of the handbag-bashing, bake-offs and backstabbing that conceal the isolated and unpleasant truth of the life for wives and girlfriends, the long celibate months alone with the kids waiting for news from the war zone, and Hagar's return, when, addicted to the high-octane thrill of combat, he is in need of action at home. This is a roller-coaster ride of laughs and home truths that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Je Deteste le Menage, French edition of I Hate Housework by Clare Macnaughton

IMMEDIATE RESPONSE

Co-written by

Major Mark Hammond & Clare Macnaughton

2006 in Helmand saw British forces engaged in the most ferocious fighting since the Korean War. For much of the time they were hanging on by their fingertips, holed up in remote platoon houses, outnumbered, facing relentless assault and nearly overwhelmed. Only the Chinooks kept them in the game. But that meant their crews putting down in hot LZs, exposing their aircraft to withering attack from an enemy for whom downing one of the big helos would be the ultimate prize.

They had been lucky. So far. Then they launched their biggest operation yet: a complicated, high-risk airborne assault that launched a fleet of heavily armed helicopters into the Afghan Heart of Darkness. And then a report came over the net that one of the Chinooks was down . . .

In Immediate Response, Major Mark Hammond, a Royal Marine flying with the RAF, tells the gripping inside story of the Chinook squadrons' war for the first time. It's a visceral, unputdownable combination of hi-tech and old-fashioned grit; an action-packed story shot through with a mix of aviation fuel and cordite ...
